    Inner Melbourne Counselling

Inner Melbourne Counselling has been established to address the needs of the growing population of Melbourne’s inner suburbs. The Manager of this practice is Roger Frankel, and as a Counsellor himself, he is able to access a team of experienced Counsellors and Psychotherapists who work independently and can provide discreet, compassionate and effective support for clients experiencing relationship difficulties, depression and anxiety, grief, loss and trauma or other forms of emotional distress. The aim of treatment is to work in a client centred and compassionate way to help clients during times of need and to restore their capacity to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.

Roger brings to the therapeutic relationship a capacity to make clients feel at ease and confident about raising sensitive issues. The creation of a safe and trusting relationship, where problems can be openly disclosed and discussed, is the foundation stone of effective therapy leading to change and growth towards a more aware, serene and fulfilling life. Most clients will feel much better simply knowing that they are not alone in their situation, and that the intensity of their distress can be attenuated through therapy. Many clients will experience enlightening moments of self-awareness as they engage with new meaning in their lives.

Much of Roger’s professional life was spent in the Australian Foreign Service. He served in 5 countries and speaks Spanish, Portuguese and French fluently. He has decided to make his life experience and professional training available to fellow members of our community who may need emotional support. He has a Masters in Social Science (Human Services-Counselling) from Swinburne University. He observes the ethical standards established by the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association of Victoria (CAPAV).

There is no “one size fits all” therapeutic approach. Some clients prefer to work through their existential issues and distress in a deep exploration of their inner selves. Others are more comfortable with a solution focused approach, to deal with particular issues. Yet others are simply looking for assistance in making a difficult decision. Many of us face grief, anxiety, addictions, difficulties in relationships, chronic illness, the occasional overwhelming feeling of hopelessness and despair, and sometimes depression. Some of us need help to deal with these difficult times. Roger likes to work in a collaborative way with his clients, honouring their uniqueness.

LITTLE FISH CAREERS

Change, and how we respond to it, is fundamental in determining how we thrive in our personal and professional lives. When faced with changed circumstances, even if we have planned them, we can feel overwhelmed. We often get stuck. To support those who are experiencing difficulties with this process, Inner Melbourne Counselling and Little Fish Careers have combined to provide clients with a greater range of services. The principals of both organisations have known each other for many years and are confident that this initiative will benefit their clients, especially where career transition needs and emotional issues coexist, as they often do. We will work together, through reciprocal referrals and a multidisciplinary team approach, to ensure clients receive the level and range of support that will ease their transition through a period of change, and allow them to resume a fully satisfying, enriching and meaningful life.
